Make Holiday Gift Wrap

Homemade Gift Wrap by Fran W.

Kids feel a sense of accomplishment and independence when they make their own gifts. Encourage them to wrap their gifts up in a special way by using inexpensive items that can be found around the house!

Turn paper into boxes, decorate a lunch or store bag, or up-cycle a cereal box.

All that’s needed is a little time and creativity and some simple craft supplies to make one-of-a-kind gift bags, boxes and wrapping paper.

Items needed…

Paper: Old magazines, newspaper, copy paper and construction paper

Bags: Recycled store bags and lunch bags
Boxes: Recycled cereal, cracker, pasta, pizza, ect.

Craft supplies needed…

Scissors, markers, crayons, colored pencils, yarn, tape, hole punch, ruler, craft foam, paint and paint brush, kitchen sponge, stickers, stencils, stamps, hot glue gun, etc.

What to do…

Origami Gift Box by Fran W.

Make a box from paper or a recycled box.
Turn the pages of a magazine or copy or construction paper into an origami box, and make a lid to match. Decorate the paper before you fold it up, or put sticker on it when you’re done and wrap it in ribbon or yarn.

Turn a recycled cereal or cracker box into a new box. Use these instructions to help you out. You will need a hot glue gun for this one.
 Wrap gifts in newspaper.

Use the funny papers or any whatever you have on hand and finish it off with ribbon or a bow.

3 Ways to repurpose a store bag.

  • Open a store bag along the seam, cut off the bottom, decorate one side and wrap a gift with it.
  • Turn the bag inside out, paint or decorate it, fold down the top, punch a couple of holes in it and tie it up with ribbon, yarn or string.
    Candy Cane Gift Bag
  • Make a sturdy gift bag with a rope handle by using these instructions.

Turn a lunch bag into gift bag.

Fold the top of the bag down 1 inch of the top, punch two holes as evenly as possible, decorate the bag with markers, stamps, stencils or stickers, etc., add your gift, and tie the bag up with ribbon or yarn, or put a candy cane or a candy stick through the holes.

These gift wrap ideas are great for adults too!

What to put inside the bags…
